Largest organ built in Katowice, Poland

Largest organ built in Katowice, Poland

This organ when completed will almost certainly be the largest organ that Skrabl has built. It has 105 straight ranks of pipes and two consoles with five manuals. It is to be built for the new concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

The building has been in use for several years and an organ had been prepared for with a dummy prospect placed there as a representation of the projected organ. Much planning and thought has gone into its design.

The basic modelling follows the broad concept of a French Symphonic Organ made famous by the builder Aristide Cavaille-Coll in the late 19th Century.

The specification has therefore the four departments usually associated with large French specifications, An additional department allows the organ to follow a path which makes it truly universal, in that it covers all the characteristics of classical German and romantic German and French repertoire.

All Bach and his contemporaries,  all the German Romantic composers like Max Reger and all the late French composers like Messiaen, Dupre and many others - universal in the full sense of the word.

The organ has an integral console in the usual central position with four manuals and a dual electrical / mechanical action and in addition a mobile console of five manuals which can be used with an orchestra anywhere on the platform.

The specification follows but is essentially...

Manual I Grande Orgue.      20 stops

Manual II Positif.                ,   16 stops

Manual III Recit Expressif.    17 stops

Manual IV Bombarde Solo   10 stops

Manual  V Schwellwerk.       23 stops

Pedal.                                   19 stops.

A total of 105 stops.

Because of its flexibility and size, there are a complete and extensive number of couplers and registrational aids.  Sub unison and octave coupling in many departments and unusually the soundboards are to include the pipes and bars associated with these couplings.

Every contemporary registrational aid and setter system has of course been included.
